Cycling the Dales
‘“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”’ (Luke 11:13)
From being a child I have always loved being on a bicycle. As a toddler I felt as though I was ‘doing a ton’ when cycling with stabilisers attached to my tiny ‘two-wheeler’. At university I bought a battered old bike for 10/- and saved a fortune on bus fares. I only ever just tootled around, never wearing lycra, but simply enjoying a carefree ride.
However cycling the Dales is challenging. Struggling up a hill on Wood Lane, two joggers overtook me. It was then that I traded in my trusted mechanical bike for an electric one. To cycle with that built in power makes a huge difference. I can get up the hill from Threshfield to Grassington without being breathless.
The moment I asked Jesus to be my Lord and Saviour, I not only had a new passion to live for Him, but power from above to be able to do so. God, by His Holy Spirit, came to live within me, enabling me to love, follow and serve the One who gave His life for me.
God gives us Himself, when we call out to and trust Him. And with Him, we have His strength and adequate supply for every challenge which comes our way.
I need Thee, oh, I need Thee!
Every hour I need Thee!
Oh bless me now, my Saviour! I come to Thee.
