Colne's Holy Trinity

Holy Trinity Church in Colne is that rather imposing old pile near the large Primet roundabout. Its online presence is weak, in contrast to its physical hulk, but it appears to have begun as an Anglican Mission based in a hut near Primet Bridge some time before 1878. The current building enjoys the benefit of a 1911 date stone, so despite its Romanesque style, it is post-Edwardian, a period when fewer Anglican churches were built, and the malaise and decline was yet to be seen.
I hope that Holy Trinity still operates in the spirit of its earliest years: outreach and mission. Yet churches, and perhaps our own among them, sometimes lose their enthusiasm and impetus once buildings are erected, structures organised and stability gained. May the Lord remind every church that it is here as part of His broader mission to reach out to the lost and welcome them back from the pigsty. Just sitting there, brooding in corners or down country lanes, is not what the Lord wants His people to do.

Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.
