Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet

Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet is a rather delightful open air museum in Sheffield’s southern suburbs showcasing eighteenth and nineteenth-century industrial functions. Metalworking has taken place on the site since the 1200s, and iron forging for at least 500 years. This Abbeydale Works was a scythe-making plant up until the 1930s, in keeping with the wider city’s expertise in the manufacture of cutlery for which it remains famous.

This is not a place at which food was grown and crops harvested, but its activities enabled others, elsewhere, to do that very thing, with its scythes and other agricultural implements becoming reality in its fires and forges. We cannot all be on the mission field, leading churches, teaching disciples, but we can support those who are, equipping with the tools they need, providing them with what they require to get the job done. May each of us either be on the front line, or supplying those who are.

Brethren, pray for us. 1 Thessalonians 5:25
