Gender-neutral God & the Church of England

Gabriella Swerling in Tuesday's edition of the Daily Telegraph writes an article entitled 'Gender-neutral God to be considered by Church of England'. She comments on how liberals in that denomination are planning to use ‘gender neutral' phraseology for God, and/or female alternatives. Swerling tellingly writes:

Any permanent changes or rewriting of scriptures with gendered language would have to be agreed by a future meeting of Synod.

It is a brave synod of any denomination which bravely attempts to change the Bible to make it conform to the latest intellectual fashion. I am pretty sure that the God who ultimately authored the Bible takes unkindly to anyone who tries to alter it or twist it to suit their own ends. Theological liberalism has been denying scripture for over 150 years; it is only natural that, in those denominations in which it has been allowed to gain the upper hand, it should now seek to edit and revise the original source.

For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

I suspect that the charlatans who are promoting this nonsense are unlikely to have their names written in the Lamb’s Book of Life to begin with. It also seems ironic that at a time when we can each supposedly choose our gender, God cannot be trusted to correctly choose His.
