Enough or more?
In 1993 the film Schindler’s List won the Academy Award for best picture. It was about the story of Oskar Schindler, a German entrepreneur who was instrumental in saving the lives of over 1000 Polish Jews during the 20th century Holocaust. In the film, he movingly admits that he could have got more out and that he didn’t do enough.
Looking at our own lives, though not in the dreadful circumstances Schindler found himself, do we feel that as Christians we are doing enough, or could we do more?
Of course, regarding our personal salvation and admission to Heaven, there is nothing that we can do to earn forgiveness and pardon for our sin. Our redemption was purchased by the shed blood of our dear Saviour, Jesus Christ and proven with His resurrection.
But, after we have been saved, God prepares good works for us to do. We know we should have a servant attitude, a loving heart and a willingness to follow the Master. Our world is broken; society and people are broken. Individuals need to hear good news - the gospel of Jesus Christ; for without Him they have no eternal hope.
We are to care for one another both where God has placed us as well as regions beyond; to have true humility, being neither self-seeking nor proud; doing nothing in our own strength but in His alone. In everything we do we desire to bring glory to God’s Name.
And this is where I, and I guess we all have to confess to Him and admit to not having always lived up to such a high standard. But from now on…
Our resolve:
‘Only one life ‘twill soon be past.
Only what’s done for Jesus will last.
And when I am dying, how happy I’ll be,
That the lamp of my life has been burned out for Thee’.

Our prayer:
O use us Lord, use even us,
just as You will and when and where,
until Your blessed face, we see,
Your rest, Your joy, Your glory share.
Our challenge:
Is it to be only ‘enough’ or ‘how much more?’
