Wesley's Coins
The coins in the display case above are found at the Wesley Museum in Bristol’s New Room. Both coins, the larger crown and the small sixpence, were given by John Wesley to a pair of children on separate occasions, for his appreciation of their good manners. Neither recipient spent the money, preferring to treasure the coin for the giver’s sake.
All the good gifts around us from God should be enjoyed and appreciated for the One from they come, as well as their own sakes. This is the difference between the believer and the unbeliever- the latter takes life’s pleasures for granted, even thinking them his right. The believer, on the other hand, has Someone to thank and a reason to treasure them.
And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God. Ecclesiastes 3:13
