Births, Deaths & Marriages
What We Offer
We are not an Anglican parish church with a legal responsibility to perform rites of passage to anyone who asks. For that, please visit the site of Gisburn Parish Church http://www.stmarysgisburn.church/ . However, many people in Rimington and its environs feel an affinity to the chapel or have some connection and we are not known to turn people away.
Baptisms
Unlike most Congregational Churches, we tend to practise Believers' Baptism by total immersion. This is because we feel baptism is a decision made by people who have repented of their sin and asked Christ to save them- something a baby cannot do. We therefore 'dedicate' babies to God. We are not, however, dogmatic on the issue, and understand there are other views to be accommodated.
Acts 2:38 “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptised every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
Weddings
We hold to the traditional view of marriage and will marry members of our congregation, or those with close links to it.
Genesis 2:24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.
Funerals
We will bury members of our congregation, or those with close links to it. We have a small graveyard to our rear, which is always available to visit if your loved ones' bodies are laid there.
John 11: 25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die."
