Crude Testimony

This Samian Ware bowl was found in a grave at Canterbury, and is the first evidence of our faith in that ancient Roman city. A crude ‘chi rho’ has been scratched into the base (a P and X motif, the first two letter of Christ in Greek), as well as a DN on the outer rim, which may stand for Domine Noster ('our Lord'). Neither marking is particularly beautiful, the product of a careful, craftsman’s planning, but it was enough to mark its owner as one who wished to be known as Christ’s.

Our Christian testimony may be weak, insignificant or crude, but Christ knows His own, and will in no wise cast out any who come to Him.

“Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven”. Matthew 10:32-34,
