Settle Down, Look Up

A carpark in Settle, operated by North Yorkshire Council, offers the following advice:

Overpayments accepted. No change given.

The generous acceptance of more coin than is strictly necessary is coupled with a refusal to return any excess payment. So the parking machine will guzzle as much cash as you wish to offer it, but you’ll get nothing more back, save the right to borrow a small patch of tarmac.

The world will always suck you dry, always demand more while offering little in return, at least nothing that is eternally worthwhile or everlasting. The Lord Jesus, on the other hand, offers some precious benefits now, and plenty afterward:

…When He comes, in that Day, to be glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who believe, because our testimony among you was believed. 1 Thess 1:10
